MUSIC

STRINGS ORCHESTRA - SENIOR STRINGS(GR 8-9)

The Senior Strings Orchestra (Combined with senior grades 4-7 string orchestra) is a course open to students aged 13 to 14 with four or more years ofexperience on the following instruments: violin, viola, cello and double bass. This is the perfect course for students who have taken private lessons or for students that have successfully completed the VSB Elementary Strings Program. The focus is to learn challenging repertoire in a variety of musical styles through ensemble playing in a positive and fun learning environment. There will be a performance at the end of the course to showcase the repertoire learned over the duration of the course. Students are required to bring their own instrument. This class will run July 9th to August 3rd.

BAND - ADVANCED CONCERT BAND (GR 8-9)

This course is intended for students who have at least 1 year of experience on a concert band (wind or percussion) instrument, and basic music reading skills. Participation in this ensemble will develop students' instrumental technique and deepen their understanding of style, musicianship, and theory through rehearsal and performance of band repertoire in the level 1-3 range.

BAND - JAZZ BAND (GR 8-9)

This course is intended for students with at least one year of playing experience on a Jazz Band instrument, which includes Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drums. Students must possess a functional level of music reading (guitarists must be able to read standard notation, TAB is not sufficient). Students will explore foundational jazz concepts such as improvisation, style, history, and theory through rehearsal and performance in alarge jazz ensemble ("Big Band").
